Don 'Red' Barry

Don 'Red' Barry was born on January 11th, 1912 in Houston, Texas, USA with the birth name Donald Barry De Acosta.

Barry was a High School and college football star. He was working in advertising, but decided to leave that career and take a chance as an actor. He started out as a stage actor with a stock company and soon switched to film work. The majority of the characters he portrayed for the first four years of his career were those of henchmen and villains. In 1940, he appeared in the highly successful film, "Adventures of Red Ryder" hence where he took on the nickname "Red". He followed this role by larger budget films, but nothing amounted to the success he got from "Red Ryder".
