SCHLITZ PLAYHOUSE OF STARS - Volume 1

For eight seasons this dramatic anthology series, sponsored byJoseph Schlitz Brewing Company, starred well-known film and stage stars like David Niven, Helen Hayes, Margaret Sullivan, James Dean, Raymond Burr, Irene Dunne, Gene Kelly, Agnes Moorehead, Rosalind Russell, Anthony Quinn, and Vincent Price to name a few. The scripts included adaptations of plays and stories from authors like W. Somerset Maugham, Ernest Hemingway, and Noel Coward. Following the pattern of practically all early TV, Schlitz was performed live with filmed episodes occasionally appearing during in the summer of 1953.

By the time of the fall 1956 season, the entire series was on film. The program aired throughout its run exclusively on Friday nights, beginning as a full hour before dropping back to 30 minutes starting in April 1952. During it's final season, it ran on alternate weeks with Lux Playhouse.
